WHAT ARE YOU TAKING TO BATTLE?

Spiritual warfare.

Something we often hear in scripture, books, titles and sermons.
However, one thing I realised later that I wish I knew sooner was that every day was a battle ground that I had to step on. Not just on a Sunday.

Every day we have a choice, to go into the day with the word and worship OR with worry.
We can go into a new day with fear OR faith, but we cant walk into it with both.

The question is:

What are we stepping into the day with?
What are we taking to battle?

To many people (myself included) the word and praise might seem like the straightforward answer.....
but what thoughts go through our mind and reside when we wake up?

Do we wake up with a negative attitude, dreading of what the day will bring before we even step out of bed?

What are the first things we say when we wake up?

When I reflected on these questions, it turns out I wasn't stepping onto the battlefield with the best armour.
In fact, I was equipping myself with the worst things to fight and defend myself with.
Think about it, with a war in the physical realm, no one would dare set foot out  onto the battlefield without the best equipment and gear to defend themselves with. This is the exact same scenario in the spiritual realm. The enemy has tricks and schemes and tactics that he would love for us to fall for, which is why it's so important to stay vigilant and equipped.

First things first, the spiritual warfare starts with our mindset and heart when we first wake up.
The word emphasises to us the importance of renewing our minds, that each day is a new day God has made so we can rejoice and be glad.

"For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
(2 Corinthians 10:3-5)

The word also instructs us to take our weapons for the spiritual warfare we will face today:

"Finally, be strong in the LORD and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. or our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the LORD's people."
(Ephesians 6:10-18)

Let these scriptures encourage you dear reader and remind you that no matter what you are facing today, you have the BEST DEFENSE and BEST WEAPON to fight strongholds with.
