GOOD FOOD FOR THE SOUL

Hey sisters, It is my prayer that you are well and keeping safe during these times, I am blessed that me and my family have been well by God's grace. But I'm also tired.  I am tired of the injustice, of the political noise that is bombarding the media here in the US, of videos seeing black men getting killed, of the pandemic. Hearing these things over and over again every day has turned into a exhaustive cycle that I cant seem to get away from.  During my devotional time with God one morning, I brought all these things to Him. I was tired even in my prayers and in speaking to Him but I knew I had to lay it ALL out.  And as I did, I felt a refreshing over me. This is what the word can do for us is we spend time plugged into it on a consistent basis. The word is:  Food for our souls (Jeremiah 15:16) Lamp for our path (Psalm 119:05) Fire that purifies (Jeremiah 23:29) Milk that nourishes (1 Peter 2:2) Over the past few weeks I have been a LOT more intentional:...

PEACE TO SURPASS UNDERSTANDING

Image
Dear reader, I don't know what your biggest lesson has been so far in the year that has been 2020, I don't know what God has shown or taught you but for me He has been teaching me the importance of peace. He has been showing me how often peace must be protected and at times pursued while we live in such a unpredictable world.  Truth is peace is something I thought I had throughout my life, when really I was just familiar with the idea of it. Peace is knowing that despite the unknown, God is already there. That He is always one step ahead and we can trust and lean on Him. When I talk of peace, I am not talking of the kind of peace that the world offers, which is temporary. The world sells us the idea or conception of peace through ideas and things. But this is not a peace that endures hardships. This is not a peace that will see you through after hearing bad news or when tragedy strikes. This earthly peace will not accompany you in the wilderness.  There is a peace available to...

Hello Motherhood......and the unknown

Image
I am writing this in the following days leading up to my baby's due date. Cup of tea at hand, some birthing affirmations playing in the background and currently in a state of calm that I am praying will carry me through the next few weeks!  We have baby's room ready. It is surreal seeing the space in our home that used to be a spare room which will now become a room for someone else, tiny human to be exact. We have done some parenting courses together and read up all we could on what we could expect in this new season. We have prayed and had amazing support around us from friends and family. We have been blessed with prayers and gifts. But there is still that thought of "are we really ready?" I have been told a mixture of things throughout my pregnancy, from different people. Some say that you need to prep as much as you can before the baby arrives, others say its a learn as you go journey and one thing you will need to be expectant for is the unknown. Hmm. S...

BATTLEFIELD OF THE MIND STUDY BIBLE REVIEW

Image
Hey ladies, I just wanted to share with you my study bible that has been really helpful in me getting deeper into the word and scripture. Commentary and notes in this bible are by Joyce Meyer, who has been a great teacher to me for many years. It is a fantastic study bible, using the amplified version which I find helpful to get a more rounded understanding. You can get this bible both as a paperback and hardback, however I would recommend investing in a hardback version for longevity and durability. The paperback wears and tears more easily. The pages in these bibles are also quite thin so be careful if you are also someone who likes to highlights/underlines scripture. I was curious about picking up this bible as I realised the warfare that we face does go on in the mind. Scripture is serious when it says the battle we face isn't in the physical but spiritual (see Ephesians 6:10-18), and that starts with what resides in our mind. What are we thinking? What i...

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MODERN SLAVERY

Image
Slavery exists, and it is closer to you than you think. In October, we write a lot on the blog to cover the topic of human trafficking, promoting A21's campaign Walk For Freedom as well as information on what we can do to help make change. Around 17,000 firms have not published modern slavery statements By   Ashleigh Webber   on  19 Oct 2018  in   Modern slavery ,  Latest News Photo of a protester at an A21's walk for freedom protest (Matthew Chattle, 2018) Since the undercover investigations in July were posted showcasing modern slavery happening in factories in Leicester, there has been a lot more discussions and light on the topic. We wanted to use this platform again to write a bit about the scale of modern slavery in the UK. The Centre for Social Justice revealed that there are more than 100,000 victims of modern slavery in the UK. This is 10 times the number which was estimated previously by the government.   AntiSlavery.org...

Making Good Habits, Breaking Bad Habits: 14 New Behaviors That Will Energize Your Life #SheReformedReads

Image
Hey fellow booklovers, Today I am sharing another book recommendation from one of my favourite authors Joyce Meyer. One thing I love about Joyce Meyer besides her no nonsense approach is that she has a way of making you feel like she is talking to you directly and knows exactly what's going on in your mind and heart. She is relatable and conversational in her writing, something I think a lot of people can resonate with in her books. In her teachings and sermons she is known to have tough love approach however her message has always been that no matter who you are and what you have gone through, you can do better and that you absolutely can enjoy your life.    This is a book that instigates action and builds you up where you're saying to yourself - the only person in my way is me and the enemy who loves to get in my way. One thing I personally got from reading this book was realising just how much my habits were holding me back. S...

KNOWING HIM: DELIVERER

I just love reading about the different people in the bible that God delivered from all sorts of complex, difficult situations. For example, there was Paul and Silas who God delivered from prison (see Acts 16:23-26). There was also Daniel in the lion's den, whom God delivered from certain death by keeping the mouths of the lions shut! God also delivered David from afflictions; to be precise the mouth of the lion and the paw of a bear! (see 1 Samuel 17:37). These are just some of many stories that you can read about where God came through and brought them out the other side.  God is indeed a deliverer. Just like so many people in the bible, we will all face affliction at some point or another. Where we are hit with a brick wall and we think "now what?". There have been many times in my life where I was stuck in the lions den, the enemy would have loved so much for me to just bow and give up then and there. There is something we can do however: we can withstan...
