Dear Girls - A letter from Steven Mcleish

Image
Dear girls, I have something to say to you:  the stuff you're listening to just isn't true  and I hope this gets through to you. You are not ugly, dumb or unattractive you need to take every thought captive because you captivate.  You are not just another stereotype and as you type your status know that you are more than your status and likes. You say you're fat and ugly but that is not what you post to be, a princess and daughter of the KING is what you're supposed to be. You are beautiful, unique, one in a billion, one of a kind, awesome, brilliant, creative, powerful, stunning, smart and a woman after God's own heart. And whether you think you're fat or thin just be comfortable in your own skin. And next time you think of the word beautiful don't forget to count yourself in. You are precious, a trusted diamond, boys who don't wait for you are not wise men because you are one of the most valued commodities there is.   And know you will never look like th...

KNOWING HIM: SECURITY

If there is one thing I can take from the year 2020, is that nothing on this earth is really secure, but temporary. Before I was saved, I used to look to the things of the world to be my foundation, whether it be things or people....which only ever resulted in disappointment. I was putting my hope, anchor and security in all the wrong things. And maybe you are at this point in your life; wondering what could possibly be secure in a world that is in such a disarray.  I love this scripture from Psalm 91: "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the almighty (whose power no enemy can withstand). I will say of The Lord "He is my refuge and my fortress, My God in whom I trust (with great confidence, and on whom I rely)" Psalm 91:1-2 Key things I had to take from this scripture in order to be truly secure in all seasons of my life: I can dwell in His presence, I can find rest and sanctuary with Him We can find ultimat...

THE WORTH OF WISDOM (PROVERBS)

Image
Hey ladies and happy Sunday! Today I wanted to write on the subject of wisdom. I want to write on what the word says about this, in particular from the book of proverbs alongside some revelation I received during my quiet time over this past week. The book of Proverbs is an amazing book dripping with wisdom that we can use for our daily lives. It tells us in the first chapter where wisdom starts. Knowledge begins with fear (reverence) and respect for God – unless we first understand this, we won’t know what it truly means to live wisely (Proverbs 1:7) therefore it is important that we know God for ourselves and develop a relationship with Him. Knowing God is knowing wisdom , as He is the source of knowledge and understanding comes from Him. The truth is we can go onto a path to self-destruction if we refuse to follow and apply wisdom for our lives. We can try and do things our own way and strength, but we will not be sure of the consequences. G...

GOOD FOOD FOR THE SOUL

Hey sisters, It is my prayer that you are well and keeping safe during these times, I am blessed that me and my family have been well by God's grace. But I'm also tired.  I am tired of the injustice, of the political noise that is bombarding the media here in the US, of videos seeing black men getting killed, of the pandemic. Hearing these things over and over again every day has turned into a exhaustive cycle that I cant seem to get away from.  During my devotional time with God one morning, I brought all these things to Him. I was tired even in my prayers and in speaking to Him but I knew I had to lay it ALL out.  And as I did, I felt a refreshing over me. This is what the word can do for us is we spend time plugged into it on a consistent basis. The word is:  Food for our souls (Jeremiah 15:16) Lamp for our path (Psalm 119:05) Fire that purifies (Jeremiah 23:29) Milk that nourishes (1 Peter 2:2) Over the past few weeks I have been a LOT more intentional:...

PEACE TO SURPASS UNDERSTANDING

Image
Dear reader, I don't know what your biggest lesson has been so far in the year that has been 2020, I don't know what God has shown or taught you but for me He has been teaching me the importance of peace. He has been showing me how often peace must be protected and at times pursued while we live in such a unpredictable world.  Truth is peace is something I thought I had throughout my life, when really I was just familiar with the idea of it. Peace is knowing that despite the unknown, God is already there. That He is always one step ahead and we can trust and lean on Him. When I talk of peace, I am not talking of the kind of peace that the world offers, which is temporary. The world sells us the idea or conception of peace through ideas and things. But this is not a peace that endures hardships. This is not a peace that will see you through after hearing bad news or when tragedy strikes. This earthly peace will not accompany you in the wilderness.  There is a peace available to...

Hello Motherhood......and the unknown

Image
I am writing this in the following days leading up to my baby's due date. Cup of tea at hand, some birthing affirmations playing in the background and currently in a state of calm that I am praying will carry me through the next few weeks!  We have baby's room ready. It is surreal seeing the space in our home that used to be a spare room which will now become a room for someone else, tiny human to be exact. We have done some parenting courses together and read up all we could on what we could expect in this new season. We have prayed and had amazing support around us from friends and family. We have been blessed with prayers and gifts. But there is still that thought of "are we really ready?" I have been told a mixture of things throughout my pregnancy, from different people. Some say that you need to prep as much as you can before the baby arrives, others say its a learn as you go journey and one thing you will need to be expectant for is the unknown. Hmm. S...

BATTLEFIELD OF THE MIND STUDY BIBLE REVIEW

Image
Hey ladies, I just wanted to share with you my study bible that has been really helpful in me getting deeper into the word and scripture. Commentary and notes in this bible are by Joyce Meyer, who has been a great teacher to me for many years. It is a fantastic study bible, using the amplified version which I find helpful to get a more rounded understanding. You can get this bible both as a paperback and hardback, however I would recommend investing in a hardback version for longevity and durability. The paperback wears and tears more easily. The pages in these bibles are also quite thin so be careful if you are also someone who likes to highlights/underlines scripture. I was curious about picking up this bible as I realised the warfare that we face does go on in the mind. Scripture is serious when it says the battle we face isn't in the physical but spiritual (see Ephesians 6:10-18), and that starts with what resides in our mind. What are we thinking? What i...
