Enjoying Life: WHAT IS THE KEY?

"Enjoying life begins with the thoughts you choose to think" I remember reading this is my daily devotional one evening and thinking "wow. Is it really that simple?" Is the key to enjoying our lives dependant simply on how we look at things? It took me a long time to grasp that no matter what is going on my life I can CHOOSE to be happy. Not just pretending to be happy or simply saying aloud "I am happy today", but genuinely being happy no matter what I am facing. Truth is, this is a lot easier said than done. I knew to some extent there was power in perspective, but still I was not cautious of what thoughts I was allowing to reside in my mind. Before I got saved I was a very pessimistic individual. I would see the worst case scenario in a situation before the positive (if I could see the positive at all). It's fair to say I did not "choose" what I thought, allowing anything and everything to go through my train of thinking. As belie...

KNOWING HIM: SECURITY

If there is one thing I can take from the year 2020, is that nothing on this earth is really secure, but temporary. Before I was saved, I used to look to the things of the world to be my foundation, whether it be things or people....which only ever resulted in disappointment. I was putting my hope, anchor and security in all the wrong things. And maybe you are at this point in your life; wondering what could possibly be secure in a world that is in such a disarray.  I love this scripture from Psalm 91: "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the almighty (whose power no enemy can withstand). I will say of The Lord "He is my refuge and my fortress, My God in whom I trust (with great confidence, and on whom I rely)" Psalm 91:1-2 Key things I had to take from this scripture in order to be truly secure in all seasons of my life: I can dwell in His presence, I can find rest and sanctuary with Him We can find ultimat...

BATTLEFIELD OF THE MIND STUDY BIBLE REVIEW

Image
Hey ladies, I just wanted to share with you my study bible that has been really helpful in me getting deeper into the word and scripture. Commentary and notes in this bible are by Joyce Meyer, who has been a great teacher to me for many years. It is a fantastic study bible, using the amplified version which I find helpful to get a more rounded understanding. You can get this bible both as a paperback and hardback, however I would recommend investing in a hardback version for longevity and durability. The paperback wears and tears more easily. The pages in these bibles are also quite thin so be careful if you are also someone who likes to highlights/underlines scripture. I was curious about picking up this bible as I realised the warfare that we face does go on in the mind. Scripture is serious when it says the battle we face isn't in the physical but spiritual (see Ephesians 6:10-18), and that starts with what resides in our mind. What are we thinking? What i...

TAKING REJECTION AS REDIRECTION

Rejection. No matter the context or situation: whether it's from a job application or a college acceptance it's never fun to go through. As people, we don't go out looking for rejection. But when we do face it, it can affect us in so many ways if we don't know how to handle it in a healthy way. I often thought if there was a right way to face rejection. Turns out there is a way I can use rejection to my advantage, and if this is something you dear reader are finding difficult to handle at the moment please keep reading. Rejection can hit deep. We could be left by a family member/loved one -  it can take so much out of us emotionally and mentally. It can shake us and traumatise us. I know loved ones who are still hurting and bleeding from a rejection that happened to them decades ago. I used to be someone that took rejection very badly. Rejection used to shake me to my core. The reason for this is that I had no stable foundation to stand on, as a result rejection...

THE PROBLEM IS NOT TIME

Image
Something I am currently learning in this season of crisis and uncertainty: in every tough circumstance, there is the option to see more than the bad. And for me that is the options of what I can spend my time on (besides from working my 9 - 5).   For so long I had the habit of saying the following to myself:   "If only I had more time, I would write and blog more" "If only I had more time, I would read God's word and pray" "If only I had more time, I could actually relax and have a spa night" "If only I had more time, I could work on that project that has been on the back of my mind for months"   Anyone else relate??   Now with the extra time I have found myself having this week - I found out something.     my problem wasn't the lack of time,   the real problem was my priorities.     I have found even with the extra time - some stuff wasn't getting done. If I can be re...

HOW ARE YOU ENTERING THE NEXT DECADE?

Hey sisters, Hope you're all keeping good as we approach Christmas! We only have about a week left of 2019 and then we are stepping right into a new decade...how exciting! I have quite a few projects lined up for 2020 which I am excited to share with you in due course. Having said that, how are you going to bring in the new year? God wants you to step into the next chapter in power, peace and victory which we can obtain through knowing/being in relationship with Him and submitting to His will in our lives.    As children of God we can go into 2020 with peace, hope and expectation as there are a lot of promises found in His word! Jeremiah 29:11 says that God's plans for us are good and are prosperous. The enemy would love for us to think different. Lets take back this promise from God, and focus on His plan for our lives as we go forward!     Keep your mind stayed on Him, no matter what season you are currently walking in - you can still find your...

LEARNING FROM SEASONS: MALACHI 3:6

Image
Hey sisters, Hope you're all enjoying the festivities that come with this time of year! Ok ok I have to admit, I'm such a winter baby. I'm all about the cooler weather, winter fashion, the aesthetic and of course CHRISTMAS. One thing I also love about this time of the year is the transition of season from winter to spring; flowers blossoming and the change in weather. It has always been a reminder to me of seasons of life. Life consists of so many seasons, some good and some more difficult. One thing we can be certain of however: Seasons change, the world is changing everyday but God NEVER changes. He is true to His word and His promises. He is the One that remains above all. “I, the Lord, do not change” (Malachi 3:6) He was mighty yesterday, is today and will be tomorrow. I wrote a post earlier in the year titled the best foundation - and it links with what was on my heart to write today. When we stand on the word and promises of God it becomes our ...

DEALING WITH UNFORGIVENESS

Image
I really could write a number of posts regarding forgiveness. Speaking honestly this is something I have struggled with for most of my life. There are many, many books, videos and material that cover this topic and a perfectly good reason why. It affects so many us. If there was a global statistic on how many people struggled with forgiveness I would imagine it to be a pretty high number, like a good 9.5/10. I'm going to be pretty transparent with the hope that what I write can encourage and bless someone who might be going through something similar at the moment.   Here’s the thing: The thing with forgiveness is that even though it can be difficult, it is necessary in order for us to heal and move forward from whatever it was that hurt us. It can hold us back in more ways than one. On a personal note, not being able to forgive growing up resulted in mental and emotional damage that got worse as I got older and didn’t pay attention to the hurt and heavi...

THE BEST FOUNDATION | MATTHEW 7:24-27

Happy Friday sisters! Who else is looking forward to the weekend?! *Disclaimer: makeup is not the subject of this post; as much as I love it it’s not my forte! But hey I thought it would be a rather catchy title, it’ll also make sense as we go into this post and how it relates to this specific scripture we’re about to dive in to!* “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” - Matthew 7:24-27 Let’s do a bit of reflecting and ask ourselves this: When the going gets tough, how’s our foundation looking? What is ou...

"DOUBLE PORTION" | ISAIAH 61

I was recently going through the book of Isaiah and was reading through chapter 61 when this verse in particular spoke to me: "Instead of your [former] shame you will have a [ d ] double portion ; And instead of humiliation your people will shout for joy over their portion. Therefore in their land they will possess double [what they had forfeited]; Everlasting joy will be theirs." ~ Isaiah 61:7 AMP This verse caused me to reflect on How God not only sees us, but what He desires for us. He doesn't see us how we see ourselves. We have all made mistakes. There may be things in our past/actions we took that we are not proud of, or wish we could erase. However, here is the remarkable, extraordinary, supernatural thing about God: He still sees us with love. He sees us where we are ~ in the midst of our brokenness, in the midst of our shame, fear and failures. And He meets us there. He is more than able and capable to take our broken pieces, ...

WHAT IS THE S.O.A.P BIBLE STUDY METHOD?

Image
I found out about this study technique from Instagram about two summers ago (oh the joys of what you can learn from IG!). Since then, I have used this method as a basis for most of my independent scripture study. I found this method at a time where I was reading the word, but wasn’t at times good at learning how to really observe what was being said and how I could apply it to my life. If that sounds like you right about now then keep reading as this technique could help! Lets have a look at what S.O.A.P stands for and take it from there!     Scripture –Take whatever scripture it is you are reading from. This can be a couple of verses or a chapter. Observation – There are a lot of questions you could ask for this part of the method, here are ones I like to ask: What is going on in the verses? Who wrote it? What is the scripture about? What is the backstory? What is being said? What is the purpose? (As you can see ther...

BEING A BEARER OF LIGHT | MATTHEW 5:14-16

If you are familiar with the word, you have probably come across these verses at some point: “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colours in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16 (The Message) As Christians we are called to be the light of the world, but what does that ultimately mean for us? To not keep God a secret, to be His ambassador in this world, sharing the good news and love of Jesus whenever possible. I love how the message version describes being a light as bringing out the God colours into the world...
